Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy

As a therapist, I’m mindful of the power dynamics that can come with this role. I try to meet each person as they are, and I stay curious about how my presence affects the space we create together

Are you feeling overwhelmed by the complexities of today's fast-paced world?

I specialize in psychoanalytic psychotherapy tailored specifically for young adults and teenagers (15-25 year olds), offering a confidential space to explore your inner thoughts and uncover hidden patterns that influence your life. My compassionate, evidence-based approach helps you gain deeper self-awareness, resolve inner conflicts, and build resilience for a more fulfilling future. Ready to take the next step?

Initially, an assessment is offered to establish whether psychotherapy is likely to be effective. This includes an introductory consultation, three assessment appointments and a review to make any recommendations. These sessions also provide an opportunity for the client to make their views known while experiencing what therapy might be like.  At this stage it may also be important to take into account the views of the young person's parents or carers, especially for under 18s.

Once an assessment has been completed, if therapy is appropriate then either short or long-term work will be recommended and discussed prior to starting. An agreement about the areas of work is sometimes agreed at the commencement of the treatment and aims can be evaluated and reviewed during the course of the psychotherapy. All sessions last for 50 minutes.

Parents and Carers

Sometimes, individual therapy with the child isn’t the most effective route. At those times, other options are available. I can provide support for parents who are concerned about their child's overall wellbeing, even if individual therapy sessions for the child are not required at this time. Alternatively, there is parent-child therapy; joint sessions with both parent(s) and child(ren), aimed at strengthening family relationships can be highly enjoyable, as well as effective.

If you are interested in exploring various parenting strategies or would like to receive informed advice on important aspects of child development, please feel free to reach out to discuss how I can assist you further in your journey.

Parent sessions may be essential to support a child's individual therapy. While young people are in psychotherapy, parents/carers can have regular appointments either with me, or another professional, to discuss concerns, parenting strategies, and gain insight into the therapeutic process, including their own parenting experiences.

The need for parent sessions will be addressed during the assessment.
